Yin Yoga is a modern adaptation of yoga asana (physical practice) that draws from both classical yoga practices and Traditional Chinese Medicine’s meridian system theory of how energy flows through the body. Utilizing contemporary variations of classical yoga poses, and philosophical concepts from both traditions, Yin Yoga works on the less elastic connective tissues of the body: tendons, ligaments, fascia - making this practice particularly beneficial for our large joints and increasing overall range of motion. On a more subtle level, Yin Yoga works to stimulate and move what can be thought of as vital life force energy, chi or prana, is thought to tone the nervous system and increase the movement of chi or prana to the internal organs. Yin Yoga was developed to act as a compliment to more physically demanding, dynamic movement practices, providing a much needed balance between dynamic and static forms of yoga pose sequences.
To truly understand any form of yoga, it must be experienced. Join us for an introductory exploration of the intriguing and incredibly potent practice of Yin Yoga. Learn the body mechanics behind how Yin Yoga works so effectively on large joints and connective tissues. Discover how Yin Yoga poses are experienced differently than their more active counterparts. Experience how Yin Yoga differs from Restorative Yoga. Our Introduction to Yin Yoga Workshop will be interactive including a lecture-style component along with experiential exploration of concepts. Workshop includes a 40 minute, floor-based Yin Yoga practice. Workshop is facilitated by Clarissa Boggess, E-RYT500, YACEP, RCYT |
